Dunscar Garden Centre has presented prizes to three local schools that entered its Grow Your Own competition.
Launched in May, the competition involved 6 primary schools in the Southport area growing a range of fruit and vegetable plants. Dunscar Garden Centre provided all schools with strawberry plants, tomato plants, runner bean plants, parsley seeds, growbags, seed trays, pots, compost and canes.
Training in the classroom was provided at the start of the competition by Dunscar Garden Centre director and former head teacher Mr Eric Vickers, who also judged the competition.
Eric said: “We were extremely impressed by all the schools who took part. We originally intended to pick one overall winner, but the enthusiasm and effort that were put in by three schools in particular meant we extended the prize to two joint winners and one runner up.”
Presentations took place on 19th July 2006 and the winning schools were:
Joint Winner:
St John's Crossens C of E Primary School, Southport
Joint Winner:
Holmeswood Methodist School, Ormskirk
Runner Up: Marshside County Primary School, Southport
