Over nearly 60 years the business has been almost continually expanding. We started in 1948 on ½ and acre of land as a market garden and are now a fully fledged garden centre on a 5 acre site with another 2 acres available for future development.
The new covered plant area is now complete and extends over 6,250 square feet to provide shelter both for our customers and plants in inclement weather. It will also enable us to stock a bigger range of more tender outdoor plants. Later this year we will be installing lighting to allow customer access in the dark afternoons of Winter. We have also opened up a new shade tunnel to house those plants that fare better out of full sunlight.
Our new shop extension is now fully open and offering over 3,250 square feet of showroom space and houses a vast aray of garden furniture, barbeques, conservatory furniture and gift ware.
Assuming we receive Building Control Regulations approval, our next major project will be the construction of a 2,250 square foot extension on the back of the Garden Café and a covered walkway linking it with the new shop extension. We plan on using the new extension to expand our catering facilities and provide a food hall and improved customer toilets. If everything goes to plan the work will start in the Autumn and the new facilities will be open to our customers by the middle of 2008.
We have some plans for further development in the years 2008 to 2010 to improve our customer facilities and offer a broader range of products and services. These will be announced once we have received the necessary planning permissions.
