Garden Café & Restaurant

We are pleased to offer a choice of catering facilities, both housed in the yellow bungalow adjacent to the main centre. The Garden Café is a licensed coffee shop offering light refreshments including soup, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and a wide array of handmade cakes and cookies.

However, it is also renowned locally for the quality of our own blend of hand roasted coffee, including latté and cappuccino. Throughout the day our customers can relax in comfortable armchairs or sofas with complimentary newspapers and magazines, listening to the rich sounds of Latin American jazz from our Bose stereo system. The wall décor reflects the origins of our tea and coffee. High chairs, puzzles, crayons, toys and a baby changing facility are available for our younger customers.  In 2014 we extended the facility to include a self-service hot servery.  The extension offers a view of the patio and garden and the theme of the wall art and décor reflects the local agricultural heritage.

The style of décor and menu of the Garden Restaurant is very contemporary. The interior is fitted out in beech, chrome and black granite and the wall art depicts wildlife of the Lancashire countryside.  Outside there is an enclosed patio garden and fully enclosed children’s play area for the warmer months. Here customers can enjoy more substantial meals as well as light refreshments up until 3.30pm. Our menu is continually evolving and changes on a regular basis. We have tried to source most of the produce locally or from other areas of the North West. We are particularly proud of our award winning cold chicken (smoked near Penrith) and salmon (smoked in Harrogate). Other dishes include hand made pies, locally made quiches. A “Specials Board” lists a daily changing variety of interesting and tempting hot and cold dishes. We also sell a selection of good quality wines, beers and spirits.

Our philosophy for the catering is, “Fresh, Wholesome and Local.” This approach has been recognised with two significant awards. After a series of inspections, the local council recognised our achievements in meeting Food Standards Agency criteria and promoting healthy eating with the Recipe 4 Health Award. Furthermore, after a series of “mystery shopper’s” visits we received the Taste Lancashire Quality Award for our catering staff’s efforts to produce high quality food that is locally sourced and promotes Lancashire’s rich food heritage. We are pleased to have retained both these accolades in every year since their first award in 2009.
