On the evening of 29 October we will be holding another dinner followed by a talk in the Garden Café. The subject of this evening’s after dinner talk will be, ‘Shackleton’s Endurance Expedition’, and it will be delivered by our very own Shaun Lewis.
In August 1914 Shackleton and his men set out for the Antarctic onboard the Endurance with the aim of carrying out the first ever crossing of the Antarctic Continent. Sadly, their ship was trapped in the ice and eventually sank, leaving the party marooned thousands of miles from home. Shaun will outline how the men survived their ordeal of ten months on the ice and how rescue was finally achieved.
The event is open to ticket holders only. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Garden Café for £10 per head. The cost of the event includes a two course meal, tea or coffee and attendance at the talk. A vegetarian dish will be available on request.
