Don’t believe everything you hear or read in the news. We have just experienced our best ever Autumn/Winter trading period with sales up 19% on the previous year’s record for October to December inclusive. Yet again the star department was the expanded Country Clothing Department with an impressive 44% increase in sales over the same period. The Cook Shop’s growth of 21% seems feeble by comparison.
We thus need to expand our fantastic, hard working staff and create some new positions. The priority is to recruit a dynamic and experienced deputy for our hard pressed MD to free up Hilary and Shaun to focus on the next expansion drive and development. We are also seeking up to 8 other new members of staff, working in retail sales, the gardens and plantarea or in catering. However, we are flexible as to whether the positions are part time (say 2 or 3 days a week or even one weekend day for students) or full time (ie 4 or 5 days a week). Where we are not flexible is that we will be demanding team players with passion, commitment, excellent customer service skills, energy and enthusiasm. We are now much more than a traditional garden centre with some very exciting new areas. Accordingly, whilst we still need keen gardeners on the staff, we are also looking for staff with sufficient knowledge to help us develop other areas of the garden centre such as the Catering, Cook Shop, country clothing, giftware, floristry or interior furnishings departments.
